Today, a paper appeared in Nature describing the full genome sequence of Jim Watson. This is the first human genome sequence that has been published using next-generation sequencing technology - 454 in this case. Press releases have been issued by Illumina and ABI announcing the completion of a full human genome sequence, but this is the first peer reviewed paper.

Cell has published a review article summarizing the state-of-the-art next generation sequencing technologies and their capabilities. This article focuses on the 454, Solexa and SOLiD platforms.

Nature Genetics has published a nice article summarizing the sequencing technologies on the horizon.
